The establishment of a vineyard is a work that requires meticulousness and extends over several years. First, based on complex studies, the location must be established, the place is subsequently cleaned, fertilized and prepared for planting vines. Then, the best quality planting material is obtained, obtained within your own vine school.

The vineyards of the Jidvei company (aged between 4 and 20 years), impress with their size and the way they are arranged and cared for.

The organization is made both in large plots, with long rows, which allow harvesting and maintenance work to be carried out mechanically, as well as on terraces and platforms with southern exposure, favorable for the production of grapes for premium and super-premium wines, white or roses, as well as for sparkling wines. Here the harvesting is done manually, and the maintenance is partially mechanized.

The mild winters and the constantly warming climate, allowed the establishment of a modern unprotected cultivation system, the vines being driven on semi-tall stems with fruits located at a maximum height of 1.2 m. They facilitate mechanized harvesting and defoliation operations.

Jidvei Company owns the largest fleet of self-propelled and towed harvesters, equipment and machinery for crop maintenance.

„Modern methods of planting vines consist in the use of planting machines with automatic GPS guidance system, which come with the advantage of increased productivity – an average of 10 ha in 24 hours. Jidvei was the first wine producer in Romania to introduce and use planting machines with GPS guidance“, said Marin Cucură, technical director.

The company aims to constantly renew the vineyards, according to the preferences and trends of the market regarding the varieties and type of wine, but also depending on the age of the plantation. Due to climate change, there is a tendency to expand plantations with red grape varieties for red and rosé wines.

PLANTATION MAINTENANCE
Every year, the main objective in terms of quality management is to obtain quality grape productions, achieved by applying a high-performance technology, with the support of a professional, competent team.

The major objective is to optimize technologies through scientific substantiation in order to ensure sustainability.

Since the winter, operations have been carried out to support the biological production potential of the varieties. Thus, the cuttings are directed in order to even out the fruit load on each plant.

The maintenance works during the vegetation period are carried out on the basis of the program for combating diseases and pests, and the time of operations is closely linked to the data collected by the decision-making platform, forecast and warning, provided with weather stations covering the entire vineyard.

The defoliation operations are fully mechanized and are performed with the defoliation machine, once the leaf layer is removed during the grape ripening period, to reduce the risk of botrytis diseases and to reduce antibotritic treatments. The viticulturist thus completes his task, producing a healthy grape, with an optimal degree of maturation depending on the proposed purpose, the last stage being the evolution control of the maturation, of the sugar and acidity content, respectively polyphenols for black grapes.
