Segarcea — described by the estate as much dreamed for land in its Latin name — is one of the twelve domains given to the Romanian Royal House in 1884 under King Carol I, established both to support the Crown financially and to advance agricultural techniques.
The vineyard now covers 277 hectares facing south in a natural amphitheatre, sharing the 44th parallel with Bordeaux, Burgundy and Piemonte. The estate is known for keeping a rare, century-old Tămâioasă Roză parcel.
