Dealurile Moldovei is the biggest region of Romania in terms of wine production and Romanian grape varieties assortment.
Many great Romanian wines are produced here. It is the birthplace of many indigenous rare grapes, like Fetească Neagră – top red grape, Busuioacă de Bohotin – the only grape that produces pure rose wines, or whites fresh & fruity Frâncușă, Șarbă, Plăvaie, Grasă de Cotnari.
Dealurile Moldovei has the biggest range of Romanian wines produced. You can have white and rose wines – dry, medium sweet, lusciously sweet or brut and extra brut champenoise sparkling. The red wines are made mainly dry or off-dry.
Dealurile Moldovei wine region is in the east part of Romania and includes the sub-mountain Carpathian hills and the droughty eastern Moldavian hills. The average height is 140 meters with a maximum elevation of 300 meters. It belongs to European wine growing zone C1, one of the warmest zone for wine making.
Is divided in ten wine areas with DOC classification:
Bohotin, Iași, Cotnari, Huși, Iana, Cotești, Odobești, Panciu, Dealurile Bujorului, Nicorești. Some of them are attested as the oldest vineyards of Romania, with more than 2000 years of tradition in wine making.
