The Pannonian plain in the west — Romania's smallest region but one of its most ambitious, driven by foreign investment and high-quality terroirs.
The land
The region marks the vineyards in the south-west of Romania and it is the smallest region in terms of surface.
It has two DOC classification areas: Banat and Recaș.
Despite being the smallest, due to the good quality of the terroirs and the proper climate, the region has known one of the best developments of the wine industry — mostly because of foreign investment targeting high-quality wine making. The climate is influenced by the Danube River and by the proximity of the Mediterranean area.
Production covers the main grape varieties, while export is a very important part of the local industry.
